k...kali ni Hana nak post pasal literaray devices pulak la.... sem ni memang Hana belajar poem pun utk salah satu subjek Hana...
SIMILE
It is a direct comparison between two unlike things. It usually can be determined by the word like, as, as if, than, such as, or resembles;
Example:
The sun is like a yellow ball of fire in the sky
Busy as a bee
The muscles on his brawny arms are strong as iron bands.
Like for once you don't have the answer
As though you're always in control
As if everything that exist
As the tear rolls slowly
PERSONIFICATION
The figure of speech that the author give the human characteristics or qualities to non human things such as animal, plant and thing. This comparison is to communicate feeling or attitude towards it.
Example:
Clouds cry
My teddy bear gave me a hug.
The scythe whispers
The tree watches him sleep
A brave handsome brute fell with a creaking rending cry
The sun showed me the way
Death laid its icy hands on kings
Love and friendship had crippled his sense of judgement
ALLITERATION
Alliteration comes from the Latin word allitera which meaning “adding letters”. Alliteration is almost the same with the assonance, but alliteration is the repetition of the consonant letter of words in a line and it is the repetition of the same initial letter.
Example:
And spend some time with you.
For you were no where in sight.
That has created the cruel law
That brought life back to me
I lived like a zombie
No matter what my wrongs
Though life is no longer present
ANALOGY
It is a comparison between the different thing but have some similarity or agreement in particular ways. It is used to carry the inference that if things agree in some respects.
Example:
I would do it in a minute
And our fights have become painless scars.
Nothing gold can stay
Yesterday is just a memory
For your new home up above.
The white mares of the moon rush along the sky
No rainbow can grace the sky
Before the tears have begun.
The dreary day outside is gray
HYPERBOLE
Hyperbole is used to heighten effects by using exaggerated statement or phrase. The function is not to make the reader misunderstand but to emphasize the meaning.
Example:
“My heart was smashed”
When you've a thousand things to do
Ten thousand saw i at a glance
Our laughter was sunny and bright
So Eden sank to grief
He was so hungry, he ate that whole cornfield for lunch, stalks and all.
Gilgamesh and Enkidu carried thirty score pounds of weaponry.
I’ll give you the moon and stars.
ASSONANCE
The function is almost same as alliteration, but the different between them is the assonance is the repetition of the similar vowel sound in a line of the poem.
Example:
“This is given to you in honor”
moody blues.
Fleet feet sweep by sleeping geese
I sipped the rim with palatable lip.
The East Beast sits upon his beach
No spot of ground
And I liked the beast on the east beach least
Our eyes are filled with blessings here....
